“The program printed the excerpted text as Barber set it, and Mr. Bischof encouraged the audience to follow along—a salutary notion, as clear as Elyse Kakacek’s diction was. What was truly remarkable was the depth of her identification with the place and the experience, and she is not a Southerner! Her crystalline soprano, beautifully produced with well-centered pitch, was ideal for the shapes of the musical phrases and the feelings they evoked. Barber brought us into the marrow of the experience and Ms. Kakacek and Mr. Bischof guided us gently along, although with a firm narrative hand."

Dvořák's Biblical Songs are simple yet powerful settings of ten famous Psalms (in the composer's own English translation), written while he was living in New York (not far from where Elyse herself lives now). As Elyse tells us in this conversation, Dvořák's music not only resonates with her own Czech heritage, but has deeply personal connections as well."

"Czech heritage is at the forefront with Elyse Anne Kakacek’s album release “Formless.”
In 1894, composer Antonin Dvorak completed a song cycle in English that was translated from the 1579 Czech version of the Bible. Elyse Anne Kakacek uses Dvorak’s English text of the Bible translated from the Czech version in her album “Formless.”

Ms. Kakacek's group Frisson is a collective focused on the filmed expression of classical music, capturing the emotional immediacy of the genre by collaborating with artists of all disciplines.
Their latest production, L’Eraclito amoroso, is an exploration of an aria written by Italian singer, poet and composer Barbara Strozzi. The film combines emotive classical singing, artful pole dancing, and inspired harpsichord to reimagine the piece through a new and fascinating lens.
