Soprano soloist, Knoxville: Summer of 1915

Modus Opera Orchestra

“The program printed the excerpted text as Barber set it, and Mr. Bischof encouraged the audience to follow along—a salutary notion, as clear as Elyse Kakacek’s diction was. What was truly remarkable was the depth of her identification with the place and the experience, and she is not a Southerner! Her crystalline soprano, beautifully produced with well-centered pitch, was ideal for the shapes of the musical phrases and the feelings they evoked. Barber brought us into the marrow of the experience and Ms. Kakacek and Mr. Bischof guided us gently along, although with a firm narrative hand."

Soprano soloist, Exsultate Jubilate

"Associate Conductor Brian Holman led the orchestra for Kakacek’s lively and beautifully phrased rendition of Mozart’s early Exsultate Jubilate. Both amply deserved the warm reception the audience afforded the short piece, and both are young artists to watch.”

Elyse Anne Kakacek: Biblical Songs

"The young American soprano Elyse Anne Kakacek joins us to discuss her new album Formless: The Biblical Songs of Antonin Dvořák. Inspirational in both interpretation and content, Formless offers a peaceful meditation on spirituality – and a salve for the soul in troubled times such as these.

Dvořák's Biblical Songs are simple yet powerful settings of ten famous Psalms (in the composer's own English translation), written while he was living in New York (not far from where Elyse herself lives now). As Elyse tells us in this conversation, Dvořák's music not only resonates with her own Czech heritage, but has deeply personal connections as well."

Elyse Anne Kakacek: Biblical Songs

"Czech heritage is at the forefront with Elyse Anne Kakacek’s album release “Formless.”

In 1894, composer Antonin Dvorak completed a song cycle in English that was translated from the 1579 Czech version of the Bible.  Elyse Anne Kakacek uses Dvorak’s English text of the Bible translated from the Czech version in her album “Formless.”

Rio Grande Guardian arts correspondent Mario Muñoz spoke to Kakacek about her album “Formless.” This podcast features the interview."
